Bug Fixes and Upgrades in Overseer Version 1.804

The following bug in Overseer 1.701 was fixed in version 1.804.

  1. If an invalid primary license (i.e. Admin or Suite license) was installed on a PC then, on running Overseer Admin 1.701 (or earlier), a user got the error message: "The primary Overseer license is invalid on this PC and should be re-installed." On attempting to re- install the license, this same message came up and the dialog enabling entry of the activation key was not displayed. This was fixed in version 1.804.

The following upgrades to Overseer 1.701 were implemented in Overseer 1.804

  1. A new software application, Overseer Reports, was developed to enable school associations, or individual schools, to create custom report card designs for use by teachers. The design options include choice of paper sizes, layouts (single-sided or double-sided; 0, 1 or 2 folds), fonts, graphics support and full specification of subject areas and subject components. A new class of reporting entity, subject categories, is also supported for reporting assessed scores within subject components. Each design may be saved as a single file for easy transmission to, and installation by, an Overseer Admin user.
  2. Overseer Reports is not part of the Overseer suite, but must be purchased separately. A licensed copy of Overseer Reports is needed to design custom report cards, but is not required to use the design files. The first release of Overseer Reports is version 1.804 for consistency with the compatible version of the Overseer suite.
  3. Support for custom report card designs was implemented in the Overseer suite. This permits design files created via the new Overseer Reports application to be used in the Overseer suite of applications. Conventional (default) report card designs are still supported by the Overseer suite, in addition to the new custom designs.
  4. Additional data fields were added to support capture and printing of students' overall average marks for each term. These are captured automatically within Overseer Grades and may optionally be printed on custom report cards if included in the design.

The method of synchronizing subject areas and subject components between the master Overseer database and teachers Grades databases was modified. In previous software versions, a hidden ID was used to uniquely correlate records in the two databases. Now the subject area and subject component (and category) abbreviations are used for this purpose. This new method is more intuitive for users and will minimize loss of the ability to import Grades data in the event that data records were deleted, then re-created (with the same abbreviations) in the master database.
